The Rebels and New York Dukes stand in for the NFL's New Enlgand Patriots and New York Giants. In the film, the Rebels play the Dukes in the last game of the regular season, and later in the League's Championship game. The movie was released during the 2007 NFL regular season, and in that season the Patriots played the Giants in both the last game of the Regular season and in Super Bowl XLII (2008).
