France's government-run anti-doping body said yesterday that 44 out of 128 riders tested positive for doping substances at this year's Tour de France.
One of the cases involved EPO, a banned performance-enhancer. The other substances were justified on medical grounds, and riders will now be asked to show proof they had approval.
No names were disclosed and a spokesman at the organisation declined to provide further details.
